Gordon Allen was born in Baltimore, MD in 1953 and had studied at the MD Institute College of Art for only one year when he illustrated his first book for a New York publisher. The publication of that book began his illustration career, and he went on to illustrate more than twenty books, mostly in the sporting genre, while contributing to many magazines as well.
Over the years he worked at learning the etching medium and eventually established a business selling his etchings in galleries across the USA. Etching freed him from having to illustrate and allowed him to begin to focus on painting.
Most of his paintings are done en plein air in the American Impressionist tradition, and his work is in hundreds of collections across the country.
He lives in Chapel Hill with his wife, two dogs and a cat. See more on his website: gordonallenart.com.
